SOM Review: Kayla Cariaga

Singer-Songwriter / Pop and Alternative Music artist Kayla Katelyn Cariaga known by her stage name as Kayla Cariaga and/or Kayla C. has an up-beat, Poppy vibe with an ability to turn anything acoustic and add sparkle to any sound.

She started off singing at the age of four and finding a passion for using her voice. From then on, she immersed herself in the world of music and the arts, learning how to play the piano at the age of 10 and experimenting with writing poems. Her poetry soon turned into song-writing and she decided that she wanted to become a musician.

Dedicated and motivated towards this goal, she began working towards her first releases, with the upmost care and attention. Then, in summer 2012 she released two singles, “Everything” and “Snow Flakes”, at the mere age of 12. She followed these up with her first debut EP “Memories”, containing five songs, in 2015. In March 2016, she dropped her third single “Stars Around” and is growing an audience that relate to her emotion-led song-writing and captivating voice.

Since then, she’s worked with some of the music industry’s talented song-writers such as “The Jackie Boyz” from Universal Music Group and has been invited to perform at their charity event in California. She’s also collaborated with legendary musician Richie Cannata from Billy Joel’s band on a single titled “Rule the World” that was released on June 9th 2017 early last summer. Invitations have flooded in for her to work with high profile artists from within the U.S. and abroad.

As well as a talented song-writer, Kayla Cariaga is also an experienced performer. At 13 she started performing at various events in Orange County, Rockland County, New Jersey, and New York City and as far as Pennsylvania, Ohio and Texas. She’s since been asked to perform at town festivals, music festivals and music conferences, including CMJ (College Music Journal) in NYC, Millennium Music Conference, Cape May Singer-Songwriter, Springboard South, Jersey Shore Festival, New York City Marathon, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, Comic Con as well as at charity and private events.

With a supportive family behind her, she is currently studying at Monroe-Woodbury High School in New York and balancing her recording and performing with her education. Continuing to build her career, she has since received music distribution deals in the U.S. and abroad and publishing deals locally. She has worked with very talented producers in New York which she continues to do so. Just recently, she started working with two awesome LA producers whose songs have hit the Billboard. They have been very instrumental in guiding her take the next steps towards being the next upcoming artist to look for.

With a strong online presence and a passion for both writing and performing, she is a versatile and confident musician, with the ability to put a crowd at ease and entertain them. Each performance she gives is fueled by the deep-rooted emotion that listeners crave.

Inspired by some of the well-known artists/musicians Christina Perri, Sara Bareilles and Kinna Grannis, she writes and sings about life experiences and observations to share her journey and personal insights. Her ultimate goal is to be known and recognized as one of first young female Filipino-American singer/songwriter that was able to break into the industry, with the opportunity to give back to the family that have nurtured her talents as well as to her followers who have been there supporting her throughout her journey.

She just completed her first new single for 2018 titled “Gone” which was released on May 4th, 2018 with a pre-release on April 30th, 2018. It is now available for download and streaming from all the online music outlets. Currently, she is in the midst of working towards the production of a few more singles and a second EP. Her second EP is slated to be released in the later part of 2018. New singles are already planned for release early 2019. Kayla Cariaga is very excited about her new songs and new sound, and is optimistic about the future.

After she completes high school this summer, she plans to hopefully tour extensively and perform at various venues and TV stations locally and abroad, as well as take part in indie films, etc. She will continue to write her own songs, further co-write with other talented writers as well as collaborate with other artists. She’s full of adventures and experiences and can’t wait to share them with a much wider audience.
